Business Spotlight

DeCoach Rehabilitation Centre

For over seven years, DeCoach Rehabilitation Centre has served clients with behavioral and mental health conditions including those with substance use and alcohol use disorders. As one of the largest family owned and operated behavioral health systems in the state of Ohio, DeCoach currently serves over 3,000 patients and was voted one of the best treatment centers in Ohio in 2022.

DeCoach opened its first location in 2016 and has since grown to six outpatient offices throughout Southwestern Ohio — Cincinnati, Fairfield, Hamilton, Fairborn, Xenia, and Eaton. Additionally, DeCoach provides supportive housing services.  Kim Barrows, Chief Executive Officer of DeCoach Rehabilitation Centre, shared the organization’s excitement as they plan the opening of their newest residential treatment center in Dayton.

“At DeCoach, we are not only helping the individual – but also their family and other loved ones. By working in Southwestern Ohio, we have been blessed with a strong, supportive community that is focused on healing individuals and saving lives,” Kim said.

Sometimes, out of struggle, comes inspiration. Kim shared, “Previously, I had owned and operated a consulting firm dedicated to improving post-acute care facilities, so I had an idea about what was involved in running a small business. It wasn’t until I started to help fellow co-workers get into behavioral health facilities, that I realized how difficult the system was to navigate. It was this struggle that inspired me to start DeCoach Rehabilitation Centre. I set out to improve the process with a new, innovative model that focused solely on improving outcomes with a non-judgmental and harm reduction focus.”

She expressed battling stigma regarding behavioral health has been a challenge.

“Battling the stigma associated with behavioral health conditions is the largest challenge in operating a behavioral health treatment center. We often run into the Not In My Backyard stereotype where the community knows there is an overwhelming need for services, however, finding a physical location is difficult due to a lack of understanding.”

Kim shared some tips for future business owners that are just getting started:
• Consistently review the analytical data to guide your decisions.
• Be confident and passionate about the service or product you are offering.
• Always be on the lookout for ways to innovate inside of your company.

Finding a great partner has helped bring success to DeCoach Rehabilitation Centre.

“Civista has been a great partner for our organization. Their personalized attention was crucial to our success. When other banks didn’t see the value of our business, Civista worked tirelessly to make sure we met our goals. We look forward to continuing to grow our relationship with Civista well into the future,” Kim shared.
