Fraud Alerts
Around-the-clock monitoring on your Civista debit card, with no enrollment required.
Security that acts before the charge goes through
Your Civista Debit Mastercard debit card in monitored around the clock. Every transaction is reviewed for signs of fraud before it's approved, using both your own spending patterns and fraud trends seen at financial institutions across the country.
When something doesn't fit, we reach out to confirm it with you. Your card may be limited until you respond, so the sooner you reply, the sooner you're back to normal.
You're already covered
Every Civista debit cardholder is enrolled at no cost. There's no text to send, no form to fill out, and no password to create.
The one thing worth checking is your contact information. We can only reach you at the numbers and email address we have on file, so if your cell number or email has changed, update it in digital banking or stop by a branch. Contact your banker or visit your local branch to update your contact information if you are a business debit cardholder.
How we'll reach you
We start with a text to your mobile number. If we don't hear back, we work down lthe contact information we have on file.
You have 48 hours to reply to a text. After that, you'll need to call us. If you'd rather talk to someone from the start, the Fraud Center is staffed 24 hours a day.

How to know it's really us
Scammers imitate bank fraud alerts, and they're good at it. A caller ID can be faked. A text can be made to look like it came from us.
So we don't publish our Fraud Center number here. Sign in to digital banking and look under 'Manage Cards' > 'Debit Card Services & Controls'. You'll find the exact number and short code your alerts come from. Save them to your contacts, and any future alert will show up as a name you recognize.
You will never lose anything by hanging up and calling us yourself.
IF SOMETHING DOESN'T SEEM RIGHT
800.604.9368
We're here to help, and no one at Civista will be offended if you hang up and call us back using the number on the back of your card or on our website to make sure the call is really from us.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to enroll?
- No. Fraud monitoring comes with your Civista debit card at no cost, and it's already active.
Make sure the cell number and email address we have on file are current, since that's where alerts are sent.
What makes a transaction suspicious enough to trigger an alert?
- Several things are weighed together: the amount, how often the card has been used recently, the type of merchant, and where the transaction is taking place..
Legitimate purchases are sometimes flagged. Replying confirms it's you and clears the card.
Traveling or planning an unusually large purchase? Call us beforehand at 800.604.9368 and carry a second form of payment .
What if I don't respond to the alert?
- You have 48 hours to reply to a text. After that you'll need to call us so we can review the transaction with you.
An unresolved alert can keep your card limited for us to 30 days. Replying is the fastest way to get back to using it normally.
Why is a website asking me for a code at checkout?
- Some online merchants now ask for a one-time code before finishing a purchase. You'll see a short verification screen, you choose where to send the code, and you enter it to complete the order.
There's nothing to sign up for and no password to create. The contact options on that screen come from the information Civista has on file, which is another reason to keep it current.
What will Civista never ask me for?
- Several things are weighed together: the amount, how often the card has been used recently, the type of merchant, and where the transaction is taking place.
- Your full card number
- Your PIN
- Your online banking password
- Your Social Security number
We may ask you to confirm the last four digits of your card. If someone contacts you claiming to be from Civista and asks for anything on the list above, end the conversation and call us at 800.604.9368.
What happens if I confirm a transaction was fraud?
- Your card is blocked right away and you'll get a number to call so we can review the activity with you.
A fraud alert doesn't automatically mean your card has been compromised, and a new card isn't always the right answer. A new card number means resetting every autopay, subscription, and digital wallet you've set up, so we'll walk through that with you before deciding.
Everything you need, already signed in
Your Fraud Center contact information lives inside digital banking, where you've already proven who you are. You can also lock your card, set alerts, and update your contact details from the same place.
